Movie Thoughts In Courier #16.
Lead Breakfast (‘Pulp Fiction’ Remix) by Pogo
Wow. I can’t get enough of these Pogo movie remixes. Wish I could do this kind of thing all day long. Simply gorgeous, clever, musical editing film fun.
mcdavis answered your question: Have you ever noticed that Jules’ gun doesn’t seem…
I never noticed while watching it before, but It also happens when he shoots him in the arm for saying “what” again.
YES! You’re exactly right. I wonder if this was simply a case of firing off blanks too close to actors’ heads/arms, etc. and therefore a safety concern, or a budget issue to save money on blanks and squibs.
Either way, it’s interesting to see this in such an iconic scene where the believability of the danger is so important.
Have you ever noticed that Jules’ gun doesn’t seem to actually go off here? It makes a sound and the characters react to it, but there’s no muzzle flash, no expended shell, no recoil.
Is Jules so badass he doesn’t even have to register a weapon going off, or are we merely seeing a bit of moviemaking sorcery?
Watch the whole scene on YouTube to see what I mean.
The magic of the silent GIF: I sit here imagining that Travolta’s saying “I poop” right before the gun goes off.
And I hope you are now, too.

I appreciate you posting my Pulp Fiction / Chef Boyardee “Blankie” commercial mashup I submitted.
I commend you on the 100+ notes your post got.
I see you thanked my site by name…
…yet I have to wonder why you didn’t include an actual link back to it.
You know, an attribution link like a large percentage of your posts have. The one that pops up there in your Messages/Submissions queue. The one you use so that folks can discover new sites, enjoy their content, build the community.
Or is that asking too much?
