I guess it’s a byproduct of Fincher’s style in which he doesn’t spoon-feed you every fact, every Big! Moment! (certainly a good thing), because I missed this. I didn’t get the sense that Blomkvist knew the case had any greater implications than simply Harriet’s disappearance. It’s underplayed, to say the least.

Again, in the Swedish version that’s all due to Lisbeth’s efforts. Blomkvist just kind of goes along with everything that she finds out. I haven’t read the books, so I couldn’t say where the emphasis is there.
